Financial Assistance Fund
The Financial Assistance Fund (FAF) provides people with HIV/AIDS living in the lower mainland, who are facing unexpected financial hardship, with concrete assistance toward achieving and maintaining financial stability.
Financial Assistance Fund provides to our clients who are in need a subsidy for their bus pass, medications, short-term housing, or moving expenses.
Here are some examples of assistance provided during 2009/10 fiscal year.
- The FAF assisted 720 individuals with the purchase of a yearly bus pass. The annual bus pass provides individuals with a means of transportation throughout the year and translates to a minimum savings of around $900/year per individual in transportation costs.
- The FAF provides assistance towards medications. This assistance was provided to individuals with no medical coverage, who had nowhere else to turn. The assistance provided went toward medications that were desperately needed in order to stabilize health.
- The FAF assisted 43 individuals and families with costs related to achieving and maintaining stabilized housing along with expenses incurred with phone connection costs. The FAF guidelines ensure that assistance is provided toward alleviating immediate crisis, in order to realize or regain safe housing.
